AES Bug Club

My eldest son has just presented a talk at the AES Bug Club event held in the Oxford Natural History Museum www.oum.ox.ac.uk infront of quite a few people. I am so proud of him! Doing a talk is totally voluntary and I greatly admire him and all those brave enough to take part. Several children to young adults entered and in the audience we learnt loads – well I know I certainly did! Afterwards the families get behind the scenes tours and have a go at pinning specimens for display. Fantastic day out! This year Richard Lewington  www.richardlewington.co.uk gave out the winners prizes, signed invertebrate paintings and signed identification books with his illustrations. For those of you who do not know, he is the main man when it comes to invertebrate drawings and his work is absolutely breath taking in its detail, almost better than a photograph. His brother Ian is a mean bird painter too. There were prizes for all the runners up and it was yet again a really great day. If you have a bug crazy child join – www.amentsoc.org - your curious child today could be tomorrows entomologist and here they will get loads of encouragement to help them on their way!

The winners and judges.
