Bertie the Beetle

This is how the Beetle Tank all started. Bertie is a Rhinoceros Beetle, Xylotrupes gideon, given to one of my sons who just impressed us so much and got us all totally hooked on big beetles. He is so incredible it is hard to accept he is even real! We have watched him shove any other beetles off his banana and admired the power he possesses with his 'horns'. He pushes down with the top, and with the same force and time, up at the at the bottom with his 'horns'. Outstanding beetle and by no means the biggest Rhino Beetle out there. The Hercules Beetle, Dynastes hercules is a serious contender for that title measuring a staggering 180mm. Talking about which, How it Works magazine, www.howitworksdaily.com  a favourite read in our household, is running a spread on the giants of the insect world this month. Always worth a browse.
